DIRECTOR'S LOGS
These logs have been condensed and edited, but to the best of our ability, they remains an accurate account of the case.

THE STORY OF JIM BARNES
Jim Barnes committed suicide on the Warren's property on October 27, 1992. He was in the military, retired. The town residents spoke very highly of him. According to friends and family, Jim committed suicide upon learning that he had Alzheimer's. Jim's widow, Ruth-Anne, told me that Jim watched his father deteriorate with Alzheimer's. He didn't want to put his family through the same thing, so, according to Ruth-Anne, he just ended his life one morning. When Ruth-Anne arrived home from work that morning, she found his beret lying in the driveway. She said she sensed something was wrong. She found her husband and called the police.

We spoke with a specialist who regularly works with Alzheimer patients. He explained to me that depression is not uncommon with those who are newly diagnosed. There has been a lot of progress in the treatment for Alzheimer's since the early '90s. This specialist explained that the medication and treatment available today was not available back then. Counseling was usually one of the steps involving those who were diagnosed with Alzheimer's, but for Jim, he never got that far. He died within a week or so after being diagnosed.

KRISTY'S BEDROOM
We later learned an interesting connection with Kristy's bedroom. Her bedroom was the master bedroom for the house when Jim Barnes and his family lived there. Therefore, she is sharing the bedroom that Jim Barnes regularly slept in.

However, psychic Chip Coffey claims that the spirit haunting Kristy in her room isn't the spirit of Jim Barnes. It was of the little boy, Walter.

DEAD TIME: THE DOOR OPENS
During Dead Time, we hear the creaking of a door, followed by Sergey radioing to tell us that the door had just opened. This was seen in tech headquarters. Unfortunately, no cameras were on it, therefore it's difficult for us to rule that as evidence, especially since we cannot review it.

DEAD TIME: CAMERA ANOMALY
Both Josh & Sergey were baffled by the surveillance system anomaly. Josh, who is an electrical engineer, is sure that it was not an internal malfunction. Only three camera areas were affected — the barn, Kristy Warren's bedroom, and one in the kitchen. What is truly chilling is the fact that these three locations are the exact hot spots for alleged supernatural activity. Kristy's bedroom is the most active, followed by the barn and kitchen area.

Kristy Warren's Bedroom — Formerly Jim Barnes' bedroom. Kristy Warren feels someone pressing down at the foot of her bed. She also saw a hand go across her throat.

Barn — Both the mother and Kristy had paranormal experiences in the barn. They are petrified to go out there at night.

Kitchen — Where Walter, the young boy, died. Family has claimed that items are regularly misplaced and moved in the kitchen area. Sometimes drawers are open.

Why did the cameras malfunction in the three most "active" areas? Why not outside, or in the living room? We don't know the answer to that.

I'm willing to consider this evidence because my team currently cannot explain the activity, followed by the very unusual "coincidence" that the anomaly only occurred in the most haunted spots on the location.

SLEEPOVER: EILFIE EXPERIENCES SOMETHING
We at PRS occasionally sleep over at the client's home in order to embed ourselves in to the environment. We all crammed in to Kristy's bedroom, which had two beds. Katrina and Heather shared the queen bed, while Eilfie took the single. The guys were stuck to the floor. In the middle of the night, Eilfie woke us because she claimed she heard heavy breathing. Heather broke out her camera and we monitored the area for a bit. Later at night, Eilfie reported experiencing "sleep paralysis," a state where the body is still asleep but the individual feels conscious. During sleep paralysis, an individual might experience visions or supernatural phenomenon. It's like a waking dream. In paranormal terms it's sometimes referred to as "hagging" or night terrors.

We're not sure if Eilfie's experience has anything to do with the phenomenon. If anyone is interested in reading more about hagging, Dr. Hufford of Penn State wrote a definitive book called, The Terror that Comes in the Night. Dr. Hufford also spoke at last year's UNIV-CON.

SIGNS: "MAYBE IT PLANNED YOU?"
Something that people likely won't believe, but is very genuine, is the bizarre coincidence of doing the investigation on the anniversary of Jim Barnes' death. This is not the first time this has happened in PRS history. We have investigated cases — both on and off camera — where we later discover a connection to a death or tragic event and also find that we happen to be doing the investigation on the anniversary.

I didn't know it was the anniversary of Jim Barnes' death until his widow, Ruth-Anne, told me.

Chip brought up an interesting point that I considered afterward. Is it possible for the dead to somehow influence our actions and plan events out for us? In the case of Jim Barnes, were we meant to do this case so that we could try and bring closure to his spirit? Suicide is a very sad and touchy subject. The state that one must be in when they decide to take their own life... we'll never truly know what it's like for these individuals when they pass on. Maybe there's a guilt that keeps them earthbound? Maybe Jim Barnes didn't have any guilt. How can any of us be sure?

I took the anniversary as a sign that maybe we were brought to the Warrens to provide Jim Barnes and the property with closure. I never met Jim Barnes, but I could tell from speaking with friends, neighbors and his widow that he was loved and respected. I like to believe that we are always forgiven for our sins. That's the message that we Christians have learned for two millennia. But sometimes it's hardest for us to forgive ourselves. We can create our own hell and turmoil with the guilt that lies inside.

We decided to hold an honor ceremony for Jim Barnes, who served in the military for some time. I believe that if Jim Barnes was truly hanging around, he was presented with an opportunity to move on. Regardless, the ceremony helped Kristy Warren and her family move on. And that's also very important.

UPDATE:
Kristy Warren has reported to me that she still experiences occasional activity from the little boy spirit. Kristy is still trying to cope with the possibility that a child spirit might haunt her home, but she's grown more comfortable with it.

Michael:

I just want to let you and your team know that I was deeply touched by your show this week on the man that took his life after he was diagnosed with Alzheimers. My mother was diagnosed with Alzheimers and has since past, but one of the behaviors that is evident with someone suffering is anger and at times hostility. The reason for this is that the person suffering is confused or angry that they are sick. I wonder if the spirit of Mr Barnes could still be caught in this mindset? In any event, please keep up the great work.

Michelle:

In the episode when Jim Barnes wife was interviewed she said part of his skull was in the beret in the middle of the driveway. How did it get there if his body was in the barn? Nothing further was said and no one questioned it.

Marlene:

I am also curious---a person can bury a human body part in their backyard and it's okay with the law? Didn't the head have to go with the body to the morgue? And how *did* that head get out in the driveway? There are alot of questions with this one.

Terry in DC:

Im glad others have questioned the "piece of his skull in the beret" comment from Mrs. Barnes... Ryan didnt even flinch; so it's obviously something he knew of before the interview.
It leads one to believe that Mr. Barnes shot himself in the head and the driveway must lead right-up to the barn door.
It was a truly touching episode. I'm glad that you showed that people like Kristy and the elderly neighbor are touched deeply by these activities, and that you're not just "ghost hunting", but you bring an emotional comfort to these people as well.

And - Chip Coffey is officially one of my favorite people... next to Ryan.

Kelly:

I'd also like to know what happened about the head. Notice is the summary up above it only says Jim's wife found the beret -- and nothing mentions the head or it being buried. Very confusing.
Chip is da man!

Mandy:

Actually, when Ryan was interviewing the widow and she mentions the skull in the beret she found, Ryan was quite surprised and said "What?" but she kept talking and he didn't interrupt her. It did not seem that he knew this information prior to talking to the widow on the phone.

Evan:

I wonder if the "get away from here" feeling that Jim Barnes seemed to be projecting, and the fear that they picked up from the boy, may have actually been the result of an interaction between Walter and Jim.

Perhaps they were scared of each other.

Walter may have been existing there in relative peace until Jim comitted suicide, and it was the "clashing of spirits" which created all of the negative energy that resulted in the haunting.

wendy troutman:

i guess i'm a little confused by your statement,"I like to believe that we are always forgiven for our sins. That's the message that we Christians have learned for two millennia."
if we truely are christians, born again and bought by the blood of jesus, then why was a medium brought in instead of a pastor who would pray for the warrens and also for the evil spirits to leave?
is'nt god and his army more powerful than satan and his army ? even satan knows that.
