Code Name: "Paranormal Intervention"

DIRECTOR'S LOGS
The Penn State PRS team was dispatched to Queens, NY to investigate Carolann's case. These logs have been condensed and edited, but to the best of our ability, they remain an accurate account of the case:

THE TAPES
Carolann had bags and bags of tapes. All filled with what she felt were her "greatest hits" of EVP recordings. A lot of it is hard to make out. However, she has a remarkable amount of tapes that have voices clearly saying things. I had to admit that I was slightly excited and hoped that we could do a DEAD TIME session with her to capture some phenomenal EVPs.

EVP ANALYSIS
Ron Milione is an EVP specialist, working with many different groups across the country, including TAPS. Ron was convinced that the EVPs he reviewed were genuine. He thought that they were very impressive, yet he was slightly alarmed with what some of the "spirits" were saying when they were coming through. There were clearly some threatening sounds.

THE ADDICTION
It became very clear that Carolann was literally addicted to EVPs. Talking to her husband and friends, Carolann would sit in her room for hours conducting EVP research while her friends would come over and socialize. She would never leave her bedroom to say hello. Sometimes the sessions would last over six hours. Carolann admitted that sometimes she would wake up in the middle of the night and record EVPs. She then began to experiment with trying to record movies or television programs with a blank tape and then rewinding it to listen and see if anything else came through. The woman's life began to revolve around EVPs.

For her and many else out there, the temptation to delve in to this world can be very big and appealing. As Ron said it on the show, they open up a door of communication and they are then drawn to it. Eventually, they become slaves to the channeling.

EVP research and fine. After all, PRS conducts EVP research all the time on cases. But Carolann isn't a paranormal investigator. She's a woman who tried to communicate with the spirit of a woman in her home and later felt that many other personalities were coming through. In trying to communicate with the dead, Carolann forgot how to live. Spending six hours a day attempting blind spirit communication isn't healthy.

PARANORMAL INTERVENTION
It sounds weird, but we got together with Carolann to stage an intervention. Lorraine Warren was very instrumental in helping us get this message across. Regardless of whether or not there were spirits, Carolann was becoming too involved in this. It needed to stop. She needed to enjoy her retirement. Enjoy her companionship with her husband and friends. Carolann herself admitted she wasn't happy. In the end, she agreed to toss the recorder into the beach.

FINAL DIRECTOR'S LOG
Was Carolann truly recording voices of the supernatural? I believe that something was going on in her home. The temptation was great for us to try and take advantage of the fact that Carolann was getting remarkable EVPs, but we learned quickly that this was unhealthy and it was posing a danger to her well-being. We stopped focusing on the EVP research and started focusing on her. She needed to move on. I'm so happy when I hear from Carolann and she tells me that she's still refraining from the temptation to pick up a recorder and start over.

UPDATE
Now over a year later, Carolann has picked up recording EVPs once again. However, she claims that she does it significantly less and that she's doing it to try to help spirits move on. Both myself and Lorraine have advised against this, but she is a grown woman. However, she still claims to be happy and enjoying life. According to her, she's learned to create boundaries.
