Another Perspective: "Vegas"
Tuesday January 29, 2008 8:45 AM
The following is a blog entry by George E. Dalzell, L.C.S.W., a practicing psychotherapist, medium and author of Messages: Evidence for Life After Death. George consulted with the PRS on the investigation shown in the "Paranormal State" episode "Vegas."
I was contacted in February of 2007 by the PRS to fly to Las Vegas. The only information I was given was that their client was a person who reported experiencing materializations of a spirit in her home in Las Vegas. Nothing more. In addition to being a licensed psychotherapist, I am also an evidence-based medium. I have participated in science experiments both as a medium at the University of Arizona and the University of Virginia.
Pre-reading Savannah
Pre-reading — Definition: making contact with a primary deceased loved one to gain written information documented before a mediumship reading. As a medium, writing out a Pre-Reading allows for getting specific information from loved ones in spirit versus "cold reading," which is getting information during a sitting from a sitter's visual and verbal cues. Cold reading is the opposite of true mediumship.
Truth is stranger than fiction, and I never cease to be amazed at direct spiritual experiences and communication with spirit. While en route to Las Vegas, it occurred to me on the plane to do a pre-reading in order to test the authenticity of the investigation and to seek specific data to orient me to the situation the PRS was investigating.
I hadn't planned to do a formal pre-read, but I was moved to take notes quickly on the plane while en route to Las Vegas to aid in the PRS investigation.
As I sat and wrote down the information that was coming to me, one of the first things was a name: "Emily." I got a total of two names, and Emily was the first of the two.
Cut to the next day, I arrived at Savannah's home in suburban Las Vegas. I was briefed about the specifics of the case for the first time while being filmed with the PRS. Ryan Buell then explained to me that, "Savannah reports she's both seeing and hearing a spirit of a teenage girl who had been murdered whose name is Emily."
I couldn't believe my ears. "Emily?! I got that last name in a Pre-read last night on the plane." I then produced several pages on which I'd taken notes, because I was certain I had a copy of the pre-read. Sure enough, there it was in my back pocket. I've saved it to this day, and while I was convinced that Savannah is telling the truth about her mediumistic ability, I feel the impact of the experience with the PRS as I write this.
Clearly, I was brought into this experience for a reason, and I endorse the authenticity of the efforts of the PRS and am excited at the prospect to work with them again. Their efforts to discern truth from fiction, spiritual experiences from delusion are credible and valuable in a way we can't presently measure.

This episode really affected me. I felt that I had so much in common with savanna. I too was abused when I was young and shortly after began experiencing strange things. I wish that I could email her somehow...? Anyway- the way the stories all coincided even with the psychic, was just amazing. Great show...I appreciate the sensitivity and respect for all matters involved in the process.
